Description
The ninth of a series of trees I have been working on. Approximately 1.5 hours. Not sure about this one, but then I only completed it several hours ago and I usually dislike anything I've done in the first few days post completion. I like how the background turned out. Like most of the pics in this series it's based on a selection of photo's mish mashed together. The trees I'm not so happy about. They look a bit sparse, even though it's only supposed to be the tree tops you're seeing. Snow turned out well, but when I went back to touch it up I couldn't for the life of me remember out of the hundreds of brushes I've accumulated which one it was... also because I almost never use the original setting and chop and change them on the fly. 
For example... the brush for the foliage is a standard photoshop brush that has been tweaked beyond recognition. I spend most of the time I think tweaking and experimenting with brushes and colours. Well... that is part of the point of this exercise after all.
I've been looking for a project to help me push my boundaries and improve my techniques. After some searching I came across fritchie's Tree Challenge here on DA. I decided that since I tend to a/ fiddle and fart about blundering my way through background art and b/ through in a 'generic' tree whenever I do outdoor green living stuff that this would be a very good place to start. Fritchie only specifies a list of trees but I've decided to go one step further and add a background unique to each one. I'm trying to do them in a timely manner, originally aiming for 30 minutes to an hour but several of the projects so far have hooked me into 2 to 3 hour stints as I've experimented with different brushes and brush settings, colours etc. All a learning process which, after all, is the whole point of the exercise.
I'm uploading what I've got so far. Nine trees and eleven to go.
